Prepositions – Language Hell

Una delle tipologie di errore più comuni tra gli studenti della lingua inglese (e non solo!) riguarda l’uso delle preposizioni. Il problema deriva soprattutto dal fatto che ogni preposizione ha una logica tutta sua: il fatto che “di”, per esempio, si traduca “of” nel contesto A non significa affatto che potrà essere tradotto nello stesso modo nei contesti B, C, D, ecc. Anzi, come vediamo negli esempi qui sotto, può capitare che la traduzione cambi ogni volta. E per rendere il tutto ancora più complicato, spesso accade che laddove in italiano si usa una preposizione, non ce ne vuole proprio in inglese, o viceversa.

Per chi vuole riuscire a usare correttamente le preposizioni, allora, è fondamentale valutare bene il contesto. Una strategia utile può essere di collezionare frasi brevi, come quelle sopraelencate, come punti concreti di riferimento.  

Adesso, mettete alla prova la vostra conoscenza delle preposizioni inglesi cercando di correggere gli errori nelle seguenti frasi (in alcuni casi si tratta di aggiungere o di eliminare). Nel caso sbagliate, imparate poi almeno una parte della frase corretta per evitare di ripetere lo stesso errore in futuro.

16)   Ask to them to come.

17)    This increase of temperature is probably due to global warming.

18)   We have been together since a year.

19)   There is a need of balance.

20)   Welcome in Bari!

21)   How much did you pay the car?

22)   What time did you arrive at home?
